Future of Shotgun Wedding - And new Patchnotes!
Shootin' cactuses and minin' gold!
For those of you who haven't played any version of Shotgun Wedding yet, I will explain:
Shotgun Wedding is a 2D Shooter-Platformer with a wholesome story, strange cactus-people, and a unique art style! The first version we uploaded was created in 48 hours for the MixAndGameJam 2020. For this demo, we expanded that version, added some features, and fixed a lot of bugs. This is just the beginning however, because everyone in our team agreed, that we'll make a great full game out of Shotgun Wedding.
We're three people, who all work in the games-industry. Currently, we're developing Shotgun Wedding in our free time, but if everything goes well, we might be able to create our own Game Studio.
Shotgun Wedding's Future
We couldn't stand to see how the players had less fun because the Game Jam version was pretty buggy and missing essential parts. This is why we decided to create and publish the current demo.
Before we create any more thouh, we will need to thoroughly plan the project. Most likely, the next version will start in a different place. The canyons and cave you already got to know will come later. The Art Style will stay similar, but we will try to improve it.
The next Shotgun Wedding will be a lot better, but in its core not that much different. I'm already very excited to see what it will look like in 2021. I hope, you will come back to check it out.
Current demo: new features, less bugs
Features that we added:
- Speedrun timer which also saves the best run time. Has to be activated in Options-Menu! (Requested by OnePunchGandy)
- Expansion to the cave
- Proper ending for the first Level
- Panel for explaining the story - including a completely new character sprite.
- Maximum velocity for the player. This prevents skipping over parts of the level.
- A Crosshair which is used instead of the mouse cursor. Doesn't work on web build yet.
- Particle effects for the shotgun
Things we Fixed:
- Made it wasier to react to enemies by increasing the cactus enemie's sound range, zooming the camera out and limiting the player's max speed (Requested by NoelOskar)
- Fixed an issue causing players to get stuck on Ledges (Requested by dozens of people)
- Made the shotgun recoil a lot more consistent
- Various issues with sound-settings and -volume
- Cactus enemies don't jump off cliffs as often. They still do. Will be fixed in the next patch.
- Thornbushes' hitboxes are more forgiving.
- Some minor visual problems
- Shrapnel shot by shotgun doesn't go through walls anymore.
Thank you
The first two weeks of having our game online were great. We give our thanks to all people, who have written comments with great feedback and useful critique. The game is still at a very early stage, so you have the power to improve it!
We already got some of your ideas written down. When you want to tell us anything, we're listening. Thank you - we're curious to see, what you which ideas you might give us next :)
